Türkiye Launches Investigation into Israeli Airstrike That Killed Three Turkish Nationals
Turkish authorities have initiated an investigation into an Israeli airstrike that resulted in the deaths of three Turkish citizens attempting to cross from Lebanon into Israel. The investigation was launched ex officio by Turkish prosecutors in the capital, Ankara, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
The bodies of the deceased men have been returned to Türkiye, where autopsy procedures are currently underway. A statement issued by the prosecutors’ office stated that once the autopsies are completed, the relevant documentation will be forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for further legal proceedings.
The three men had been reported missing last month, and their fate was later confirmed by Turkish officials. Within days of learning of their deaths, the Turkish Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the attack, labeling it as unlawful. The Ministry’s statement explained, “The three Turkish citizens, who lost contact while attempting to cross illegally from Lebanon to Israel, were killed as a result of an Israeli airstrike in the region.”
Türkiye’s investigation continues as officials seek to determine the full details of the incident and ensure accountability.
