“Guarantee Winter Road Connectivity to Remote Regions,” Directs Divisional Commissioner to BEACON Authorities
“Srinagar, December 5: Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, instructed BEACON authorities to prioritize timely snow removal and maintain roads effectively.”
In a recent meeting chaired by the Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, key directives were issued to the Border Roads Organisation (BEACON) authorities, emphasizing the paramount importance of ensuring proper maintenance of roads and timely snow clearance for remote habitations in the upcoming winter season.
The Div Com specifically highlighted the need for proactive measures, including the advance deployment of machinery, to facilitate prompt and effective snow clearance on major roads. Ensuring road connectivity to far-flung areas during the winter months emerged as a critical focus of the discussion.
The authorities have strategically positioned necessary manpower and machinery at various locations, maintaining a standby position to ensure the swift opening of roads simultaneously. This approach aims to tackle potential challenges posed by heavy snowfall and challenging weather conditions.
A significant part of the meeting was dedicated to reviewing the construction of a retaining wall for the damaged Thune Kangan Road in Ganderbal, caused by a landslide. The Div Com directed the concerned BEACON officers to initiate construction work on the retaining wall promptly. The critical portion of the road, to be identified by the Deputy Commissioner of Ganderbal, will be prioritized for restoration, ensuring smooth transportation in the affected area.
Furthermore, the Div Com undertook a comprehensive review of road safety measures in regions prone to landslides across the districts. He emphasized the importance of devising effective mitigation plans to protect roads and other crucial infrastructure, as well as to safeguard precious human lives.
During the meeting, the ongoing Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra campaign was also brought under scrutiny. The Div Com stressed the need to intensify efforts in educating the general public at the grassroots level. The campaign aims to raise awareness about centrally sponsored welfare schemes, encouraging active participation and understanding among residents in every panchayat.
In conclusion, the directives issued by the Divisional Commissioner underscore the government’s commitment to proactively address challenges posed by winter weather conditions, ensuring robust road connectivity and infrastructure resilience in remote areas. These measures align with a comprehensive strategy to safeguard lives, promote public welfare, and enhance the overall resilience of the region in the face of adverse weather conditions.
