US and Israel Accuse Iran of Plotting to Kill Israeli Ambassador in Mexico — Tehran Denies, Calls It a “Big Lie”
In a new twist to escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, the United States and Israel have accused Tehran of plotting to assassinate the Israeli ambassador to Mexico, Einat Kranz-Neiger. The Iranian government, however, dismissed the allegation as a “big lie,” while Mexico claimed it had no prior knowledge of such an incident.
According to Israeli officials, Mexican authorities successfully intervened to prevent the attack, crediting local security forces for “thwarting a terrorist network directed by Iran.” In contrast, Mexico’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement clarifying it had “received no information” about the alleged plot. Mexico’s Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection added that it remained open to respectful and coordinated cooperation with all international partners — as long as it respects the country’s sovereignty.
The Iranian embassy in Mexico condemned the accusations, saying they aimed to “damage the friendly and historic relations between Mexico and Iran.” The embassy further emphasized Iran’s respect for diplomacy and mutual cooperation, insisting the allegations were politically motivated fabrications.
A US official alleged that Iran’s Revolutionary Guards’ Quds Force had initiated the assassination plan in late 2024, using operatives tied to Iran’s embassy in Venezuela — a country known for its strategic alliance with Tehran. The official said the plot was disrupted earlier this year but provided no concrete evidence.
The accusation follows a string of violent confrontations between Israel and Iran since 2024. After Israel bombed Iran’s embassy compound in Damascus, killing senior Iranian officers, Tehran vowed retaliation. What followed was a cycle of escalating violence, including missile exchanges and airstrikes that resulted in thousands of casualties.
Iran’s government, which supports Hamas, has been a vocal critic of Israel’s ongoing military operations in Gaza and across the Middle East. Meanwhile, Israel and its allies accuse Iran of exporting violence through proxies and targeting diplomats and dissidents worldwide.
Despite the mounting allegations, Iran remains home to a small but enduring Jewish community, reflecting a complex relationship between faith, politics, and international power struggles.
