SPM 2024 Sees Remarkable Improvement — A Proud Moment for Students and Educators Across Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, April 24 — Today marks a heartwarming milestone for thousands of Malaysian families, as the 2024 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results emerge as the best in over a decade — a proud moment echoing through classrooms, living rooms, and school corridors nationwide.

Education director-general Datuk Azman Adnan, beaming with pride at a press conference in Putrajaya, shared that this year’s National Average Grade (GPN) stands at 4.49, a clear improvement from 2023’s 4.60. In simple terms — the lower the number, the better the overall performance. “This is the best performance we’ve seen since 2013,” he said, his words undoubtedly lifting spirits from coast to coast.

Out of the 402,956 hopeful candidates who sat for the national exam, an impressive 94 per cent — that’s 355,933 students — officially qualified for their SPM certificates. Even more inspiring, 14,179 students achieved straight As (A+, A, or A-) across all subjects, a jump from 3.1 per cent to 3.7 per cent over the past year.

Another promising shift? The performance gap between rural and urban students continues to narrow, proving that determination and access to education are bridging long-standing divides. Urban students recorded a GPN of 4.47, while rural students were close behind with 4.92 — a gap of just 0.45.

More than just statistics, these results represent late-night study sessions, early-morning revisions, sacrifices made by parents, and tireless dedication from teachers.

For those eager to check their results, they’re available starting 10am today at schools or state education departments (for private candidates). Students can also log on to myresultspm.moe.gov.my or send an SMS by typing SPM [IC Number] and sending it to 15888.

To every student — whether you achieved your dream score or not — know that this is only the beginning. Your hard work matters, and today, Malaysia is proud of you.
