Putrajaya Gears Up for National Day: Road Closures, Shuttle Buses, and Security for a Smooth Celebration
PUTRAJAYA, Aug 20 — As Malaysia prepares to celebrate its 68th National Day, the heart of the nation, Putrajaya, is already buzzing with preparations. To ensure a smooth and safe celebration, authorities have announced a series of road closures and traffic diversions starting next week.
From August 26 to 29, 14 major roads across Putrajaya will be temporarily closed between 6:00 am and 12:00 noon for full-dress rehearsals. These include well-known routes like Lebuh Wawasan, Persiaran Perdana, Jalan Tun Razak, and Dataran Putra.
But the biggest impact will come from the night of August 29 through to August 31, when Putrajaya Core Island—the central hub for the celebrations—will be sealed off completely. Key roads including Jambatan Saujana, Lebuh Sentosa, Bulatan Salahuddin, and surrounding intersections will be affected.
Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus has urged the public to plan their journeys wisely, leave home early, and most importantly, use the free shuttle bus service provided. These shuttles will run every 15 minutes from three different pickup points, making it easier for visitors to reach the celebration grounds without the stress of traffic or parking.
“Public cooperation is vital,” said Datuk Fadil. “We’re expecting around 100,000 visitors, and we want everyone to enjoy the celebration safely.”
To keep things running smoothly, 2,708 officers and personnel will be deployed across the city for crowd and traffic control. An Anti-Crime Operation will also be active, especially on Merdeka Eve, focusing on keeping high-traffic areas safe and crime-free.
So whether you’re marching, spectating, or just soaking in the patriotic vibes — remember to check your routes, travel early, and enjoy Malaysia’s big day responsibly.
