Prime Minister Embarks on Three-Nation Diplomatic Tour to Jordan, Ethiopia, and Oman
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday began a significant three-nation tour covering Jordan, Ethiopia, and Oman, reflecting India’s deep-rooted civilizational ties and its steadily expanding global partnerships across West Asia, Africa, and the Gulf region.
In his departure statement, the Prime Minister highlighted that his first stop would be the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, undertaken at the invitation of King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein. The visit holds special importance as India and Jordan commemorate 75 years of diplomatic relations. During his time in Amman, PM Modi is scheduled to hold wide-ranging discussions with King Abdullah II, Jordanian Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, and Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II. He will also interact with members of the Indian community, acknowledging their role in strengthening India–Jordan ties.
Following Jordan, the Prime Minister will travel to Ethiopia, marking his first-ever visit to the country at the invitation of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali. Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital, is also home to the African Union headquarters, a key institution that gained permanent G20 membership during India’s G20 Presidency in 2023. The visit underscores India’s growing engagement with Africa and the Global South.
During his stay, PM Modi is expected to hold detailed talks with his Ethiopian counterpart, meet the Indian diaspora, and address a Joint Session of the Ethiopian Parliament. He is set to share India’s democratic journey and emphasize the shared potential of the India–Ethiopia partnership in contributing to global development and South–South cooperation.
The final leg of the tour will take the Prime Minister to the Sultanate of Oman, coinciding with 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations. In Muscat, PM Modi will meet the Sultan of Oman to explore ways to further strengthen the India–Oman Strategic Partnership, with particular focus on trade, economic cooperation, and long-standing commercial ties. He will also engage with the Indian diaspora, recognizing their contributions to Oman’s growth and to bilateral relations.
Overall, the three-nation visit aims to deepen India’s diplomatic outreach, enhance economic and strategic cooperation, and reinforce people-to-people connections across key regions that play a vital role in India’s foreign policy vision.
At its heart, this tour is not just about meetings and agreements. It is about building trust, honoring shared histories, and shaping partnerships that place people at the center of diplomacy—connecting cultures, communities, and futures across continents.
