Malaysia to Begin Ramadan Fasting on Sunday, March 2
KUALA LUMPUR: Muslims across Malaysia will officially commence their Ramadan fast on Sunday, March 2, as announced by the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal, Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad.
Dressed in a traditional purple baju Melayu, Tan Sri Syed Danial declared that the start of Ramadan was determined by the order of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, with the consent of the Conference of Rulers.
The announcement was broadcast live on Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) on Friday night, February 28.
Moon Sighting Conducted at 29 Locations
As part of the Islamic tradition of determining the start of Ramadan, the Office of the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal had earlier confirmed that the sighting of the new moon took place on Friday, February 28, at 29 designated locations nationwide.
Key observation points included:

✅ Kompleks Falak Al-Khawarizmi, Kampung Balik Batu, Tanjung Bidara, Melaka
✅ Kuala Lumpur Tower
✅ Putrajaya International Convention Centre
With the crescent moon sighted, Malaysian Muslims now prepare to embrace a month of fasting, prayer, and spiritual reflection. Ramadan Mubarak!
