Disturbance Hits Submarine Power Link Between Finland and Sweden
A technical disturbance has struck the Fenno-Skan 2 power connection, the crucial electricity link between Finland and Sweden, Finnish grid operator Fingrid confirmed on Tuesday.
“The cause of the failure is currently under investigation,” Fingrid said in a statement, emphasizing that experts are working to restore normal operations as quickly as possible.
Fenno-Skan 2 is an 800-megawatt high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission line that plays a vital role in transferring electricity between the two Nordic countries. Any disruption on this link can have ripple effects on regional energy distribution.
According to Swedish grid operator Svenska kraftnät, which shared details via the Nord Pool messaging platform, the outage is expected to last around 18 hours. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure energy supply remains stable while the repair work is underway.
This incident highlights the delicate nature of cross-border energy infrastructure and the importance of timely maintenance and monitoring. Energy experts note that rapid response and transparency are key in minimizing disruptions and ensuring that households and businesses remain powered.
As the investigation continues, both Fingrid and Svenska kraftnät are urging the public and industries to stay informed through official channels for updates.
